Overview

A Handwritten Score Style Full of Character

Some music fonts are clean. Some are practical. Rhapsody aims for something more personal: a handwritten jazz score style with the confidence, warmth and immediacy of a professionally copied Broadway chart.

Rhapsody was created for musicians, arrangers, composers, educators and publishers who want scores that feel hand-prepared, expressive and alive while still working inside modern SMuFL notation workflows.

The package gives your notation a human touch without abandoning professional engraving discipline. Clefs, noteheads, articulations, dynamics, text markings and rehearsal material all work together to create a page that feels unified, readable and full of personality.

Example 1 — Dorico full score view. Rhapsody gives traditional notation a warmer handwritten page color while keeping complex piano and ensemble material clear.

Its visual identity is especially suitable for jazz charts, theatre music, concert arrangements, teaching materials, rhythm-section parts and any project where a score should feel less mechanical and more hand-crafted.

What’s Included

10 Fonts for Professional Handwritten Jazz Scores

Rhapsody includes two SMuFL-compliant music fonts and eight jazzy text fonts. That combination matters because a convincing handwritten score style is not only about the music symbols. Titles, tempo markings, rehearsal text, boxed directions and score instructions need to share the same visual language.

Music Fonts

2 SMuFL Music Fonts

Professional handwritten music fonts with more than 1400 symbols, designed as expressive alternatives to standard engraving and jazz notation fonts.

Text Fonts

8 Jazzy Text Fonts

Matching text fonts for score text, titles, paragraph styles, music text, rehearsal marks and handwritten performance directions.

Together, the music fonts and text fonts help your entire score feel intentionally designed instead of partially converted.

Compatibility

Built for Dorico, Finale v27+ and MuseScore 4.6+

Rhapsody is made for real notation workflows on MacOS and Windows. Install the package, select the font in your notation software, and continue editing your score without leaving Dorico, Finale or MuseScore.

In Dorico, the included metadata allows Rhapsody to appear in the available music fonts list. In Finale v27+, it can be selected through the default music font settings. The package also includes text fonts that can be assigned to paragraph styles, font styles and music text styles for a more complete score appearance.

Design Character

Classic Broadway Spirit, West Coast Copyist Style

Rhapsody is shaped around the look and feel of classic Broadway score preparation in the style of West Coast copyists. Its symbols are lively, direct and musical, giving the page a strong handwritten identity without making the notation hard to read.

The goal is a score that feels personal and human, but still clean enough for rehearsals, publication, teaching and professional performance situations.

Because the font family covers both music notation and matching text, the handwritten character can extend through the entire layout: notes, rests, articulations, dynamics, directions, titles and rehearsal information.

Setup

Easy Installation on MacOS and Windows

Rhapsody comes with installers for MacOS and Windows. After installation, the music fonts and text fonts can be applied inside your notation software so your score symbols and written markings share the same handwritten identity.

01

Install Rhapsody

Run the installer for your operating system and install the music and text fonts together.

02

Change the Music Font

Select Rhapsody inside Dorico, Finale v27+ or MuseScore 4.6+ so the score adopts the SMuFL handwritten symbols.

03

Match the Text

Use the included Rhapsody text fonts for paragraph styles, score text, titles, directions and music text.
